Terry Carmichel
Director - Energy, Resources & Industry
Since the formation of Crescent in 1996, I have watched the company grow with considerable pride. As a small project management
group we were able to take on very large projects in the resources sector and deliver them to the satisfaction of our clients.
It has always been pleasing to have our clients seek repeat business from us and to be part of the relationship building that
is the foundation of our project management business. I am delighted that Crescent has become a well regarded company with a successful
track record in the delivery of significant mining and oil and gas projects and more so to be associated with a high quality and diverse
team of project professionals.
In my current role it is the development of Client relationships that gives me most satisfaction. With some forty years in
the business I have built and maintained a wide network of clients in the mining and minerals sector which I am able to utilize in my work.
My background on a large number of major projects, as Engineering Manager, Project Manager or Project Director has provided me
with considerable insight into the project delivery process and I am enthusiastic in sharing this knowledge with our clients and our staff.
I graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Melbourne in 1966 and subsequently completed a Master of Science in
Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in the United States in 1976. I am a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia.

Consultant
Most of my working career has been spent in engineering and management roles with large public sector design and
construction organisations. So, joining the Crescent management team in 2000 to help run a small and different
business in a new sector of the market, created a new learning experience for me. Over the past eight years,
Crescent's credibility has grown significantly in the market place. This has been achieved through the capabilities
and dedication of key people within the organisation and by those who have regularly made themselves available to
work with us upon request. Crescent's progression has made it attractive to aspirations of larger engineering design
businesses, an as you now know, has resulted in me being part of the Project Management group (ERI sector focussed)
in Hyder's engineering design organisation. I now have the best of both worlds.
I enjoy a dual role in Crescent, managing the day to day operation of the group, but also with the freedom to assist
clients in managing the development and implementation of their projects. My main focus in the project management
area is on infrastructure and this stems from my thirty years of civil engineering design, design management,
construction management and project management experiences in the public and private sectors both within
Australia and parts of South East Asia.
I graduated from Monash University, Melbourne in 1970 with a BE (Civil) degree.

Colin Cropley
Director, Project & Risk Management Advisory Services
Crescent is a stimulating place to work because of the wide range of intellectually challenging work it provides.
One week we may be involved in the riskiness of unloading acid from a tanker also carrying hydrocarbons,
the next in modeling the possible financial penalties payable for a major infrastructure project and the
week after in helping a client restructure a major project schedule to show detailed critical paths while
rolling up for clear management reporting.
I am responsible for the consulting work Crescent does in risk management and risk analysis, as well as
overall consulting or advisory services technical direction and business development in the range of services
Crescent provides, apart from project delivery and project management. This encompasses advisory services
in project controls, risk management, project systems implementation, forensic scheduling, dispute resolution,
contracts and strategic consulting.
I have been involved in project engineering and project management for over thirty years, with nearly twenty years
involvement in project controls and risk management consulting. Much of this has involved use of Primavera
software and I have been Chairperson of the Victorian Primavera Users Group since 1996.
For the last six years I have been consulting and training in risk analysis and risk management
utilising Primavera Pertmaster software and more recently, Crescent’s own risk management database, RiskIntegrator2®.
I have a chemical engineering degree from the University of Melbourne and am a PMI Certified Project
Management Professional and a Certified PRINCE2 Practitioner. I have been a guest lecturer in project
management at Victorian universities since 1991.

My involvement with the Crescent arm of Hyder has given me the opportunity to work with professionals in the
project development and implementation business, both as clients and colleagues. The environment has been one where
people generally work together well, without the politics which sometimes occur in larger organisations.
I am called the Section Leader for the Contracts Group which involves liaison with clients and
potential clients and providing necessary experienced resources to fulfil client needs. Additionally, I provide
advice and support to personnel engaged in contracts activities.
My experience in the project management business extends more than thirty-five years and has included roles as Project
Manager, Contracts Manager, Project Controls Manager and earlier subordinate roles in those categories, for major iron ore,
petrochemical, gold and mineral sands projects.
My academic qualifications include a Diploma of Electrical Engineering (MIEAust; CPEng) and a post-graduate
Diploma in Management.

Crescent provides an environment that offers me opportunities for personal challenges and growth,
as well as developing and building new relationships with clients.
My responsibilities at Crescent include business development with particular reference to the Queensland
region as well as the role of Project Controls Manager for projects as required. A recent example of this
being the Tampakan Project Extended Pre-feasibility Study.
Since first stepping aboard a general cargo vessel as an engineering cadet at the age of 18, I have worked
in many industries including ship building and repair, heavy industrial fabrication, oil and gas, materials
handling and mining. The roles I have undertaken have been as varied as the industries I have worked in and
include drafting, planning and scheduling, cost control, project engineering, project management and business development.
My qualifications include diplomas in Project Management and Business Management and a technical
certificate in Mechanical/Marine Engineering from the Technikon Natal in South Africa.
